Organic barley groats
Barley is an excellent source of fibre, rich in fibre, which helps maintain the proper functioning of the digestive system. Thanks to its high fibre and carbohydrate content, meals made with barley groats provide a long-lasting feeling of satiety. With its mild and natural flavour, barley groats are very versatile – they can be used to make both sweet and savoury porridges, to enrich salads, or to add a creamy texture to soups, such as mushroom soup.
Method of preparation:
Wash the groats in cold water beforehand.
Bring water (or stock) to the boil.
Add the groats and reduce the heat.
Cook over low heat for about 30-40 minutes, until the groats are soft and the liquid is absorbed. If you cook in a pressure cooker, the cooking time is reduced to 15 – 20 minutes.
If necessary, add more water in the meantime.
These ratios and times may vary slightly depending on the consistency you want (lighter or thicker porridge) and the type of groats (coarser or finer).
