Organic wholemeal spelt flour
Spelt flour is made from an ancient type of wheat that has a slightly nutty and sweeter taste than conventional wheat. They are rich in protein, fibre and important nutrients and are often chosen as a healthier alternative to conventional wheat flour. Spelt flour is often used in bread, muffins, pancakes and pasta, giving them a soft texture and a distinctive flavour. Because it contains gluten, it can be used in a similar way to regular wheat flour, although some people find it easier to digest.
Unlike other wheat varieties, spelt grains are covered with a ring of bracts that naturally protect the grains from diseases and pests, and therefore do not require the pesticides used to protect them in common wheat cultivation.
Spelt – resistant to environmental pollution. This cereal is rarely grown industrially, as the yields are similar between fertilised and unfertilised fields, and it is a wild cereal crop.
