Originating in India, black pepper has been a staple spice for thousands of years. In ancient times, it was highly valued and even used as currency. Known for its distinct spicy flavour, black pepper contains the active compound piperine, which confers many health benefits. It has antioxidant properties that help fight free radicals, improves digestion by stimulating digestive enzymes, and helps to improve nutrient absorption.
