They have been used in Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicine for their supposed benefits on digestion and the cardiovascular system.<br \/>\nFrom an Ayurvedic perspective, red rice is considered to be highly beneficial to health due to its natural, unprocessed form and rich nutrient profile. They are considered tridoshic, which means that when properly prepared, they can help balance all three doshas (Vata, Pita and Kapha). Red rice is particularly valued for its high fibre content and its ability to support digestion and remove toxins.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, red rice has been gaining popularity for its potential health benefits.<br \/>\nRed rice is whole grain rice. A high fibre intake may help digestion and help maintain a healthy weight by keeping you fuller for longer.<br \/>\nRed rice is a treasure trove of nutrients and vitamins that are important for energy production and brain health.<\/p>\n<p>Preparation<br \/>\nRed rice is cooked in a similar way to other types of rice:<br \/>\nRinse 1 cup of red rice under cold water until the water is clear;<br \/>\nSoak the rice for 3 hours. (or overnight), this can help to reduce the cooking time and give a better result (softer rice);<br \/>\nAdd the rinsed rice to cold water in a ratio of 1:2,5 or 1:3, depending on the texture you want (if you want porridge, you can add more water);<br \/>\nOnce boiling, reduce the heat, cover the pot and simmer for 40-50 minutes or until the rice is tender. The cooking time is shorter in the pressure cooker, about 20 minutes;<br \/>\nWhen the rice is cooked, leave the pot covered for 10 minutes, then shake with a fork before serving.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recipes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Red rice salad<br \/>\nIngredients:<br \/>\n&#8211; 1 cup cooked red rice<br \/>\n&#8211; 1 cup halved cherry tomatoes<br \/>\n&#8211; 1 cucumber, diced<br \/>\n&#8211; 1\/4 cup finely chopped red onion<br \/>\n&#8211; 1\/4 cup cheese to taste (shredded)<br \/>\n&#8211; 2 tbsp olive oil<br \/>\n&#8211; 1 tbsp lemon juice<br \/>\n&#8211; 1 teaspoon dried oregano<br \/>\n&#8211; Salt and pepper to taste<br \/>\nIn a large bowl, mix the cooked red rice, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, onion and cheese.<br \/>\nIn a small bowl, mix the olive oil, lemon juice, oregano, salt and pepper.<br \/>\nPour the dressing over the salad and toss.<br \/>\nServe chilled or at room temperature.<\/p>\n<p>Red rice porridge<br \/>\nIngredients:<br \/>\n&#8211; 1 cup cooked red rice<br \/>\n&#8211; 1\/2 cup water<br \/>\n&#8211; 1\/2 cup coconut drink\/cream<br \/>\n&#8211; 1 tbsp. raisins or your favourite sweetener to taste<br \/>\n&#8211; Vanilla extract or powder to taste (optional)<br \/>\n&#8211; Ceylon cinnamon powder to taste (optional)<br \/>\n&#8211; A pinch of salt<br \/>\nNuts for decoration.<br \/>\nIn a saucepan, combine the cooked red rice, coconut milk, sweetener, vanilla powder, cinnamon powder and salt.<br \/>\nBring to the boil, then reduce the heat and cook for 20-25 minutes, stirring until the mixture thickens to a pudding consistency.<br \/>\nServe warm or chilled, garnished with nuts.<\/p>\n<p>Let food be medicine!<\/p>\n<p><em>NOTE.
